Ahead of the 2016/17 season she revealed she would be focusing exclusively on speed skating, although she had previously maintained that her real passion is for short track. "I started [speed skating] just for some training sessions to get a little bit stronger for short track. Then it appeared I was pretty good at it, so I started to do some racing. Then came the idea to try to qualify for Sochi for both. If I have to choose between long track or short track, my heart really goes to short track. I will always be a short tracker."
