Other information | DELAYED SENIOR DEBUT In early 2022 a concussion put his hopes of making the Canadian senior team on hold. He was too old to continue training with Canada's 'Next Gen' youth squad, meaning he was without a group to train with over the 2022 northern hemisphere summer. However, he received an invitation to train with the Canadian women's team, which he believes contributed to his selection for the men's senior team in October 2022. He went on to make his World Cup debut the same month. "The coaches invited me to join the girls' training group. Because I was not skating with the guys, I could not compare myself in anticipation of the [national team] trials, but it gave me more motivation. The level was excellent and I really improved. Because I'm very tall [188cm] I have to skate as low as possible and I've improved that aspect. The 500m is my favourite event, but I am proud to have improved the 1000m and the 1500m. These are the two tests that allowed me to qualify during the selections." (bobrtimes.com, 27 Oct 2022) |
