InjuriesIn May 2017 she suffered multiple fractures to her right leg after a crash during training. Speaking in October 2017, she said she expected to return to the ice by Christmas that year. (nu.nl, 18 Oct 2017; schaatsen.nl, 03 May 2017)
Other informationRETIREMENT
In August 2019 she announced her retirement from competitive speed skating after struggling to fully recover from the multiple fracture of her right leg in May 2017. "I thought I would get on top of it with willpower and hard work. In the past that was the case, but if you exhaust your body all the time, that is no longer possible. Recovering fully is my priority. It could be that I am going to coach somewhere, but I will look at that in the near future. I find it scary, because now I have no structure anymore. Everything was always skating and now I am on my own two feet." (nu.nl, 22 Aug 2019; schaatsen.nl, 22 Aug 2019)
